본문 : 시편 129:1-8

유대인들은 살해와 미움, 핍박과 추방 같은 환난의 긴 여정에서도 끈질기게 그 수명을 이어간 백성이다. 그들은 영리하고 재능이 뛰어난 백성이었지만 생존 문제는 항상 그들의 중요한 관심사였다.

1. 고난과 생존
“그들이 내가 어릴 때부터 여러 번 나를 괴롭혔도다”(1절).
‘어릴 때부터’는 이스라엘이 애굽에서 국가가 처음 형성되었을 때를 말하며 애굽에서 바로로부터 심한 박해와 짓눌림을 받은 것을 말합니다. 이스라엘의 고난은 시인이 지적한 것처럼 그가 어릴 때부터 이어져 사사시대와 왕정이 실시되고서도 계속되었습니다. 그리고 20세기 와서는 나치의 유대인 박멸 정책에 의해 혹독한 핍박을 받았습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고 그들은 나를 이기지 못하였다고 고백합니다. 이것은 이스라엘이 강했기 때문이 아니라 여호와께서 의로우시므로 이스라엘과 맺은 언약을 따라 악인의 줄을 끊으셨기 때문입니다.

2. 시온을 미워한 자들의 심판
시인은 시온을 미워하는 자들이 다음의 3가지를 경험하므로 하나님의 심판을 받기를 기도했습니다.
① 원수들이 이스라엘을 짓밟는 승리를 얻지 못하고 물러가는 수치(5절)
② 시온을 미워하는 자들이 지붕 위의 풀과 같이 자라기도 전에 말라버리는 실패(6절)
③ 하나님과 그의 백성을 대적하는 자들이 자멸하는 종말(7절)

3. 고난의 종
“밭가는 자들이 내 등을 갈아 그 고랑을 길게 지었도다”(3절).
이것은 그리스도가 고난 받으신 것을 의미하는 말씀입니다. 예수님이 받으신 공격은 진실로 괴로운 것이었습니다. 그러나 그들을 결코 예수님을 이기지 못하였습니다. 사탄과 지상의 왕들이 하나님과 그의 기름부음 받은 자에게 대항을 했지만 마침내 우리를 죄에서 구원하시려고 죽으셨고, 부활하시어 승리하셨습니다.

사랑하는 성도 여러분,

예수님이 사셨기 때문에 우리가 사는 것이며, 그 분이 승리하셨기 때문에 우리도 승리할 것입니다. 승리는 세상의 억눌림을 피한다고 해서 얻어지는 것이 아니라 예수님이 죽음에서 부활로 승리하신 것처럼 우리는 이 사실을 믿음으로 승리할 수 있습니다.
성도는 이스라엘처럼 울어야 할 때가 있습니다. 이것은 우리가 하나님의 백성들이기 때문에 세상에서 당연히 받아야 할 고난입니다. 그러나 결국 세상은 성도를 이기지 못할 것입니다.
날마다 이김을 주시며 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 승리를 주시는 하나님께 감사하는 저와 여러분이 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 간절히 소원합니다.



They oppressed me, but...
(Psalm 129:1-8)

The Jews were a tenacious people who had survived much affliction in their long history of death, hatred, pressure, and exile. They were very clever and extremely talented, but the matter of their survival was always a grave concern.

1. Suffering and survival
"They have oppressed me from my youth" (v. 1). “From my youth" is referring to the times when the Israelites had formed their nation in Egypt and were severely oppressed and trampled upon by the Pharaoh. The suffering of Israel, as the psalmist pointed out, had started from his youth and continued on, even into the time of the Judges and the royal rule. Then, in the 20th century, they were ruthlessly oppressed by the Nazis through their eradication policy on Israel. Nonetheless, the psalmist confessed that they could not gain victory over him. This was not because Israel was strong, but because the Lord had cut him free from the cords of the wicked. He did this according to His covenant with Israel, because He was righteous.

2. Judgement on all who hate Zion
The psalmist prayed that all who hated Zion would face judgment in the form of the following three experiences.
(1) Shame on the enemies who trampled down Israel but turned back (5)
(2) The failure of all who wither like grass on a roof before it grows (6)
(3) The self-destructive end of those who oppose the Lord and His people (7)

3. The Servant of suffering
"Plowmen have ploughed my back and made their furrows long" (3). This refers to suffering of Jesus Christ. The affliction that Jesus received was the agony of death, but they never gained victory over Him. Although Satan and the kings of the earth fought against Jesus the Anointed One, he was crucified in order to save us, and resurrected and victorious over them.

My beloved Christians!

Just as Jesus is alive, we too are alive. As He has won, we have 재n. Although we can avoid worldly suppression, we cannot never gain victory. The only way we can win, however, is by believing this truth that Jesus has won over death with his resurrection.
Christians sometimes need to cry like the Israelites. This means that we expect to receive suffering, because we are His people. But in the end, the world will not gain victory over us. Every day, God is bringing us victory through Jesus Christ. I sincerely pray that you and I will thank Him in the name of Jesus Christ.
