본문 : 시편 119:89-96

종교개혁자 마틴 루터는 ‘성경은 살아있다. 그것은 나에게 말씀한다. 그것은 발을 갖고 나를 따라온다. 손을 갖고 나를 붙잡는다. 성경은 고물도 새것도 아니다. 그것은 영원하다’ 라며 성경의 영원성을 말씀했습니다.

1. 하나님의 말씀은 영원하다
하나님의 말씀은 하늘에서 영원하므로 지상에서도 영원히 의지할 수 있습니다. 예수님은‘내가 율법이나 선지자를 폐하러 온 줄로 생각하지 말라 폐하러 온 것이 아니요 완전하게 하려 함이라’(마 5:17)고 하나님 말씀의 영원성을 분명히 가르치셨습니다. ‘성경은 폐하지 못하나니’(요 10:35), 자기를 신성 모독자로 송사하는 당시 종교 지도자들에게 대답하시는 예수님은 영원한 하나님의 말씀으로서의 성경의 본질을 언급하셨습니다. 이것은 성경의 완전 영감, 무오성, 전적인 불멸성을 확증하는 말씀입니다.
요한 칼빈은 성경에 대해 ‘우리는 하나님께 대하여 가지는 경외심을 가지고 성경을 대해야 한다. 왜냐하면 성경은 하나님에게 나온 것이지 인간적인 기원에서 나온 것이 전혀 섞여 있지 않기 때문이다’ 라고 했습니다.
성경은 하나님의 책입니다. 성경은 능력 있는 말씀으로 우리를 변화시키고, 어거스틴(Augustine)을 변화시켰고, 루터(Luther)를 중생케 했으며, 웨슬리(Wesley)를 회심케 했습니다. 그러므로 성경은 그리스도가 무너질 수 없듯 영원히 폐할 수 없는 것입니다.

2. 하나님의 말씀은 자유케 한다
① 하나님의 말씀은 우리를 해방시킨다(92절)
② 하나님의 말씀은 우리를 새롭게 한다(93절)
③ 하나님의 말씀은 우리를 구원한다(94-95절)
89-91절에서 언급한대로 하나님의 말씀은 영원하고, 하늘에 굳게 섰고, 그 성실하심은 대대에 이르기 때문에 우리를 해방시키며, 새롭게 하며, 또한 구원을 확신하게 합니다. “나는 주의 것이오니”(94절), 우리가 주의 것이 확실하다면 하나님은 우리를 구원하실 것이 분명합니다.

3. 반석 위에 서다
하나님의 말씀은 영원하고(89-91절), 하나님의 계명을 믿고 행함은 구원을 가져옵니다(92-96절). 지상에 세워진 율법은 하늘에 있는 하나님의 말씀과 비교됩니다. 지상은 마침내 사라집니다. 그러나 주의 계명들은 영원할 것입니다. 그러므로 우리는 그 말씀의 반석위에 서야 합니다.

사랑하는 성도 여러분,
모래 위에 세운 집처럼 무너지고 불타버릴 집을 짓는 어리석음은 범하지 말고 영원한 반석이신 하나님의 말씀위에 인생을 건축하는 하나님의 신실한 백성들이 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 간절히 소원합니다.

Eternal Word
(Psalm 119:89-96)

The Reformer Martin Luther said regarding the eternality of the Bible,“ The Bible is alive,”“It talks to me,” “It follows me with Its feet,”“It holds me with Its hands,” “The Bible is not an antique or a new thing,” “It is eternal.”

l. God’s Word is eternal
God’s word is eternal, so that we can rely on it for life. Jesus Christ teaches us clearly about the eternality of the Bible,“ Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them”(Matt.:5-17). This statement, “And the Scripture cannot be broken”(John 10:35), which was Jesus’response to the Jewish leaders accusing him of blasphemy, refers to the Bible’s quality as eternal. That is to say, these are God’s words which are validated with complete inspiration, inerrancy, and full immortality.
John Calvin said regarding the Bible, “ We respect the Bible with fear just as much as the Lord,”because the Bible originated from the Lord, and not from human beings.
The Bible is God’s book. Through its power, it transforms us. It changed St.
Augustine, gave Luther a second birth, and converted Wesley. Therefore, the Bible will never perish.

2. God’s Word sets us free
(1) God’s word liberates us (v. 92).
(2) God’s word makes us novel (v. 93).
(3) God’s word saves us (vv. 94-95).
As vv. 89-91 mentions, “God’s word is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. His faithfulness continues through all generations.” His word liberates us, makes us new, and convinces us of salvation with certainty.“ For I am yours”(v. 94). If it is true that we belong to Him, then God will undoubtedly save us.

3. We stand upon the rock
God’s word is eternal (vv. 89-91). If we keep His commands and put them into practice, He will by all means save us (vv. 92-96). The law constituted on earth should be discriminated from God’s word. The earth will finally disappear, but His commands will be eternal. Therefore, we must stand on the rock of His Word.

My beloved congregation!
You must not act foolishly by building a house on sand, since a house built on sand will surely fall and burn. By building our lives on the eternal rock of God’s Word, I sincerely pray that we will all become God’s faithful people in the name of Jesus Christ.
